Abstract

He, W., Zhang, Y., Zheng, Y., Zhang, K., Gui, B. & Feng, Q., June, 2008, A late Changhsingian (latest Permian) radiolarian fauna from Chaohu, Anhui and a comparison with its contemporary faunas of South China. Alcheringa 32, 199–222. ISSN 0311-5518. A well-preserved late Changhsingian radiolarian fauna (15 species attributed to 12 genera) is recorded from the upper part of the Talung Formation, Chaohu, Anhui Province, South China. This radiolarian fauna includes Entactinia itsukaichiensis, Entactinia sashidai, Triaenosphaera minutus, Hegleria mammilla, ?Wuyia dongpanica, Tetraspongodiscus stauracanthus, Tetrapaurinella discoidalis, Klaengspongus formosus, Klaengspongus spinosus, Paroertlispongus fontainei, Ormistonella elegans, Quadricaulis inflata, Ishigaum trifustis, Ishigaum obesum, and Foremanhelena robusta. This fauna is more diverse than the fauna from the Meishan section in Zhejiang Province but is less diverse than the fauna of the Dongpan section in Guangxi Province, South China. The new fauna incorporates a higher percentage of Latentifistularia forms than the fauna from the Meishan section, but incorporates a lower percentage of Latentifistularia and Albaillellaria forms than that from the Dongpan section. These differences could be due to deposition of the Chaohu sediments in deeper waters than at Meishan, but in shallower waters than at Dongpan.
