Abstract

This paper describes the performance of a large-area NaI(Tl)CsI(Tl) phoswich detector recently installed at Trombay for measurement of low levels of low-energy photon (LEP) emitters. Reduction of background in the primary thin NaI(Tl) (20 cm diam. × 3 mm thick) detector is achieved by employing a modified risetime-to-pulse-height converter which operates the secondary CsI(Tl) (20 cm diam. × 5 cm thick) detector in anti-coincidence with the primary NaI(Tl) events. The results obtained are compared with those reported for similar phoswich and thin NaI(Tl) scintillation detectors.
