Abstract

A Lagrangian backward trajectory model is developed to study the variation of acidic pollutant concentrations at a preselected site. The model is one level, with linear chemical transformations. However, simple cloud processes are included. The application is made to the study of acid rain in the Emei Mountainous District, southwest China. With limited research conditions, the results show that the distant sources have significant effects on the acid rain at Emei and these sources are relatively restricted in the Sichuan Basin, especially along the direction northeast of Emei.
