Abstract

A new quadrifilar helix antenna (QHA) with integrated feed network is designed for satellite mobile communication systems. We use infinite stripline baluns to feed the helical antenna. This feeding technique reduces the antenna's physical size and provides an ease of mass production. Experiment results show that the printed volute antenna has a 3 dB beamwidth more than 145° and polarization ratio less than 2 dB. The improved antenna is not only favorable for satisfying return loss requirement but also advantageous in realizing the wide beams and good circular polarization performance within the beams.
