Abstract

To make the practicability of software metrics higher, their integrated evaluation environment is very important in which software engineers can perform their measurement just as other electrician and mechanic do. One of problems of the environment investigated in this paper is how to manage complexly interrelated measurement activities so as not to lose consistency during the measurement process. In this paper, we formalize a management model of software metrics, which shows the relationships between construction and measurement tasks. The management discipline provides an engineering methodology to manage and coordinate the concurrent measurement activities such that a set of the metrics can be measured and analyzed consistently with purpose of a given quality model. Then a knowledge-based software metrics management scheme is presented as our validation tool that aims at solving the following problems: the coordination of concurrent measurement activities and the utilization of development knowledge in the measurement environment.
