Abstract

This paper commences by discussing some of the difficulties involved in the process of automatic verification of designs from CAD databases. The main focus of the paper is to describe and demonstrate an approach to the development of a knowledge-based integrated system which is capable of verifying a design through its description in a CAD database for conformance with some specified requirements. IPEXCAD, an early version of such an integrated environment, is described in terms of its architecture, implementation and operation issues. The system is illustrated by an application in building design.
