Abstract
A Knowledge Management System (KMS) that facilitates the sharing of knowledge in academic institutions can be an effective means of enhancing competencies in research, teaching and administrative services. Over time, there has been a paradigm shift in the field of system architecture from a concentration on the technical processes involved to a recognition of the role of human behavior. This paper describes the development of Knowledge Sharing System Architecture (KSSA) based on the knowledge sharing behavior (KSB) of real academicians in public institutions to facilitate the Knowledge Sharing (KS) process. Three main dimensions of the academicians' KSB have been studied, which are knowledge types, KS networks, and KS methods. In the case study quantitative method adopted by the study, 171 valid responses were analyzed. The research site was one of Malaysia's largest academic institutions in terms of size and population. This research contributes to the field of KMS through the development of an innovative KSSA based upon quantitative findings. The KSSA can be used as a guide when designing and implementing a new Knowledge Sharing System (KSS) for KS activities in similar institutions.
