Abstract
Development support systems provide help during one or several phases of the development of a hardware/software system. They lack, however, the means to evaluate textual data, such as the description of constraints and explanatory texts, and cannot make use of results from earlier projects. This is the aim of the Project Advisor, a knowledge based support system within a tool frame. To enter knowledge about process automation development into the Project Advisor, the frame oriented knowledge representation Language PATHOS has been defined. It consists of six descriptive formats, explained in this paper. As an example of a consulting system with knowledge expressed in PATHOS, a design method advisor is presented.
