Abstract

More attention has been paid to effective utilization of poor quality coal due to energy sources being increasingly in short supply. There are an abundance of coals with high ash (Ad > 40%), high sulfur (St > 2%), and high ash melting point coal (>1,500°C) in Shanxi province of China, and their reasonable use has become a stringency task. Gasification is advised as a way of utilization according to economy demand. For this purpose, kinetics study on the gasification of poor quality coal has been presented in this article. Experimental work was carried out to study the kinetics of carbon dioxide or steam gasification of coal with high ash, high sulfur, and high ash melting point (“tri-high” coal). Also, more useful information was obtained from investigation of gasification kinetics behavior. The results will be used to determine the kinetic parameters for gasification, which are to be used in the numerical modeling of “tri-high” coal gasification.
