Abstract

Direct determinations of the rate constants for the reactions of HO2 and DO2 with nitric oxide are reported. Near-infrared emission of HO2/DO2(2A′), excited by energy transfer from O2(a1Δg) has been used to detect HO2 and DO2 radicals in a discharge-flow system. Within experimental error, no isotope effect could be observed, and the value k1=(1.1 ± 0.3) × 10−11 cm3 molecule−1 s−1 obtained for both reactions is compared with previous results.
