Abstract

The kinetics of the oxidation of octacyanotungstate(IV) by bromate have been studied in acidic perchlorate solutions at different temperatures and 0.50 M ionic strength. The reaction is partially autocatalytic. The kinetics of the uncatalyzed pathway follows the rate law; $$ - d[W(CN)_8^{4 - } ]/dt = 6(k_0 + k_1 [H^ + ]^2 )[BrO_3^ - ][W(CN)_8^{4 - } ]$$ where k0=1.5×10−3 M−1 sec−1 and k1=9.6×10−2 M−2 sec−1 at 25 °C
