Abstract
Cizre asphaltite was leached in acidic ferric chloride solutions. The parameters affecting conversion of pyrite disseminated in asphaltite to sulphate were investigated and a mathematical model having these parameters was derived to define the leaching process. It was found that the conversion rate of pyritic sulphur to sulphate can be explained mathematically.
