Abstract

The kinetics of dissolution of natural enargite in ammoniacal solution has been investigated. Unlike other copper sulfide minerals, the dissolution of copper from enargite is very slow and only 60% of the copper is extracted after 24 hours. The rate of dissolution is favored by high temperatures and high oxygen pressures. The experimental data seem to fit an electrochemical mechanism.
