A. ; Clifton, T. R. Abstract Neutral hydrogen absorption spectra have been made toward the supernova remnant G33.6+0.1 and two nearby points sources in the field. These observations are used with published data for the pulsar PSR 1849+00 to determine kinematic distances and to resolve the relative geometry between these objects. G33.6+0.1 was found to be at a distance of 10 + or - 2 kpc, and lies in the foreground of the other objects studied. The possibility that G33.6+0.1 is the source of the heavy scattering observed in this direction is investigated.
