Abstract
To improve the surface properties and the service life of hot forging dies, a new surfacing electrode 6542 was prepared based on high speed steel W6Mo5Cr4V2 (M2) chemical composition. Surfacing welding samples of 6542 and D322 electrodes were prepared on H13 substrates by manual arc multi-layer welding. Welding procedure performance were measured by human eyes and manual work. The hardness of the welding layers were measured by HRC- 150A type rockwell durometer. Microstructural observations were conducted with a CMM-55Z metallographic microscope. The results indicated that welding procedure performance of 6542 electrode was worse than D322 electrode. Tempering stability of welding layers of 6542 electrodes were better than D322 electrodes. The tempering hardness of welding layers of 6542 and D322 electrodes were the largest at about 550C. The experiment results show that the new surfacing electrode has good high temperature characteristics.
