Abstract

This paper deals with the Fatigue Crack Growth evaluation of a crack located at a nozzle corner and submitted to thermal transients. In such situation, it is well known that it is important to consider the effect of plasticity. Thus, the background of an evaluation scheme relying on the ΔJ parameter is presented in the first part of the paper. In the second part, the Fatigue Crack Growth evaluation scheme relying on semi-circular defects is validated through a comparison to reference Finite Element modeling. It is then shown that the assumed semi-circular defect is justified and also that the complete analytical scheme based on a KI compendium and the simplified kth coefficient formulation allows to accurately evaluate the Fatigue Crack Growth Rate of this complex configuration.
