Abstract

Our aim in this paper is to discuss the humorous effects caused by the phenomenon known as mixed genres (Marcuschi, 2002). Analyzing four examples of texts, we found that the imitation of genres that are more institutionalized through formal marks is a productivere source for stylistic effects related to humor by breaking the reader’sexpectations with regard to the form of a gender with another function and regarding the similar use of more formal functions with burlesque purposes.Key words: mixed genres, style, humor.
