Abstract

Image reject mixer is widely used in communication and radar system, to reject the image signal on the down conversion and to reduce the useless sideband signal on the up conversion. However, classic image reject mixer cannot be used directly in the up-down conversion reciprocity. In the paper, based on the principle of image reject mixer, a new image reject mixer is designed of exchanging the RF and LO port, and integrating the IF hybrid of spiral lumped element form in the chip. The mixer is manufactured in GaAs pHEMT process, with the size of $1.70\text{mm}\times 1.40\text{mm}\times 0.10\text{mm}$ . The RF frequency range of the image reject mixer is 14-17GHz, the LO frequency range is 17-20GHz, the IF frequency range is 3-4GHz. The measured conversion losses of up and down conversion are less than 10dB in the frequency range, the image rejection of the down conversion is above 20dBc, and the sideband rejection of the up conversion is above 30dBc.
