Abstract

The main goal of this work is design of a reliable supervisory system for controlling and monitoring of flexible production cells, e.g., flexible assembly cells, using an extension of Petri nets. The approach comprises the modeling and implementation of a hierarchical Petri net framework able to perform supervisory functions. This leads to design of a hierachical system built up of three main structures, a coordination and logic control system, a model- and feature-based monitoring component and a structure for performing error detection and diagnosis functions for solving problems that occur during the system evolution. The validation of this approach is shown on an example application.
