Abstract
Propomo-nos, neste trabalho, a discutir aspectos relacionados à identidade semântica da preposição EM, a fim de descrever, para além de sua variação cotextual, o fenômeno que se encontra em seu fundamento. O trabalho organiza-se em três partes. Inicialmente, apresentamos certos estudos gramaticais que descrevem o semantismo da preposição EM na construção das representações espaciais. Na segunda parte deste trabalho, expomos os princípios que orientam nossa investigação, qual seja, o referencial teórico-metodológico da Teoria das Operações Enunciativas. Por fim, na terceira parte, mostramos que a (im)possiblidade de certas representações espaciais no uso do EM deve-se a uma propriedade intrínseca a esse item que revela uma forma abstrata extraída das análises dos dados linguísticos.
