Abstract

In order to simulate infiltration and drainage processes in soils of low permeability a hydraulic model was built. It consists of a number of vessels, each simulating a layer of soil with its moisture characteristic, connected by a number of tubes, simulating capillary conductivity. It is shown that the model reacts in nearly the same manner as the soil would do, according our knowledge of the flow processes and parameters. The model can be used to study non-steady state infiltration and drainage processes of which some examples are given.
