Abstract

A new hybrid TLM-FDTD algorithm for solving diffusion problems is described. The method utilizes the transmission line model to define the time step and the FDTD's leap-frog algorithm to determine the voltages and currents of the network analogue of the diffusion equation. Unlike the standard TLM method, the proposed one does not generate spurious oscillations. The method is explicit and can be used to solve highly non-linear problems without the need to solve non-linear equations. The implementation of a simple adaptive time-stepping algorithm is also described. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
