Abstract

The location of water quality monitoring stations in a water distribution system should be representative of the whole network with the minimum number of monitoring stations. Presently, no scientific methodology depicts how these monitoring stations are to be optimally located. For a complex water distribution network, the water fraction matrix was computed by recursion, then a hybrid PSO algorithm based on integer coding was proposed to help to identify optimal water quality monitoring stations in a water distribution system. The algorithm combines basic PSO algorithm with crossover and mutation operators of genetic algorithm. Lastly, the algorithm was validated with the help of a case
