Abstract

In this paper, a hybrid FDTD/vector parabolic equation (VPE) method is proposed to model the radio wave propagation in rectangular tunnels. The FDTD method is applied to the areas with obstacles or antennas, while the VPE method is applied to model the empty tunnels with a long distance. By using the advantages of the two methods, the numerical efficiency is increased and the influence of antennas is considered. The result of the hybrid method is compared with the full FDTD simulation result and the measurement results taken in a corridor. This method is effective to model radio wave propagation in tunnels with antenna relay and obstacles.
