Abstract

This paper presents a hybrid finite element-analytical approach (FEM-ANA) for open boundary axisymmetrical eddy current problems based on vector potential A with a new prolate spherical surface fictitious boundary (PSSFB), which is the development of the previous spherical surface fictitious boundary (SSFB). The PSSFB can circumscribe the shape of the interested region, especially for long, slender shape, more closely than the SSFB, and therefore the domain computed by finite element method is reduced and, meanwhile, the region calculated by the analytical solution is enlarged, which will result in more efficiency and accuracy of the hybrid approach with PSSFB than those already reported with SSFB. A numerical example is given to demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy
