Abstract

Urban networks of signalised intersections can be suitably modelled as hybrid systems, where the vehicle flow behaviour is described by means of a time-driven model, and the traffic light dynamics is represented by a discrete event model. In this paper, a Hybrid-Petri-Net based model is used to evaluate the effects of an optimisation procedure intended to improve the performances of public and emergency vehicles by coordinating several traffic lights. To this aim, some experimental results, relevant to the Italian city of Turin, are reported and discussed.
