Abstract

mark rifkin is Assistant Professor in the English Department at Skidmore College. His essays have appeared or are forthcoming in boundary 2, glq, and American Literature. He recently completed his first book manuscript, “Manifesting America: The Imperial Construction of National Space, 1776-1861,” and is at work on his second, “When Did Indians Become Straight?: Kinship, Compulsory Heterosexuality, and the Representation of Native Peoples.”
