Abstract

ryptorchidism, or undescended testis, is a common condition of childhood. The incidence is estimated to be approximately 1.5-2%1 with an increased incidence in boys who are premature or low birth weight1 . A testis which has not descended by 3 months of age is unlikely to do so, and therefore surgical intervention is required1 . Orchidopexy is amongst the most common elective surgical procedures performed in the United Kingdom1 . The current standard technique is a culmination of evolved concepts which have taken place since the 1800's.
