Abstract

The main focus of this paper is to x-ray the trend of corruption in Nigeria from the period of independence till the end of Obasanjo regime which terminated on 29th May, 2007. This is because it is not an over statement that corruption in Nigeria both in public and private sector is gaining ground as if it is an approved norm. This paper starts with a brief look at the concept of corruption and how corruption came to live and thrive in this country. An attempt at high lighting efforts made by different governments at different levels to combat corruption as well as different efforts at different levels to sustain corruption is also made. A recommendation is proffered to reduce the level of corruption in Nigeria.
