Abstract

During 16-18 centuries, as one of the most important transiting seaport for Manila galleons trade in mainland eastern Asia, Yuegang was the main inbound center of the exotic cultures from Europe and America to eastern Asia, enriching ancient Chinese multiculturalism and civilization. A group of American domesticated plants, such as sweet potato, olive, potato, maize, tomato, goober, tobacco, et cetera, were transferred into China by Yuegang-Manila sea route, enriching and refining the framework of cultivation farming and people’s diet of ancient China. The industrial products and commercial artifacts from America and Europe as silver coins, silver materials, firearm and etc. were also brought into Yuegang and Southeastern coast of China, deeply promoting the renewal and progress of Chinese traditional handcraft industry and commercial system. The type of red brick architectural complex hybridizing the west and east architectural culture, was historically connecting with the Yuegang-Manila navigation and European cultural influence.
