Abstract

A new modulation interference microscope has been developed with high speed in obtaining phase images (time required for a complete frame with resolution 1280 × 1024 pixels constitutes 0.3 sec). An optical scheme is considered with principles of operation and fundamental problems for ultrahigh optical resolution, together with results from measurement of morphology and the dynamics of nerve fibers. There is a discussion of development prospects for the modulation interference microscope and the possible use of it for biomedical research.
