Abstract
A new tin (II) chelate with 2, 2′-bipyridine-N, N′-dioxide was synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV–vis, SEM, X-ray diffraction, DTA-DSC and molar conductance. The results indicated that 2, 2′-bipyridine-N, N′-dioxide is bound to the tin (II) via the oxygen atoms. Each tin (II) is bound to four oxygen atoms and two chlorine atoms. The sensor based on the complex exhibited excellent selectivity and high response to methanol vapor at room temperature. The maximum response of the sensor was 16.9, and the optimum operating voltage was 8V. The response curve can be expressed in an equation. The response and recovery time of the sensor was 63.4s and 16.3s, respectively. Sensor response mechanism for methanol is a weak chemical adsorption with electron transfer.
