Abstract
• TF27, a derivate of artesunate , was evaluated in vitro and in an ex vivo model of placental against cytomegalovirus strains. • TF27 showed efficacy against various HCMV strains in different cell types. • TF27 decreased HCMV load in 1st trimester floating villi explant culture without significant impact on villi viability. • Experimental drug TF27, showed promising effects for further antiviral drug development.
