Abstract
Design and performance of a UHV cryo-adapter for the cold head of a closed cycle refrigerator is described. The fully bakeable adapter allows easy removal of the cold head during bakeout of the UHV chamber. A temperature of 11 K at the sample holder is obtained within 80 min in the first cooling cycle. After that, sample cooling from 800 K to below 20 K within 10 min is possible and allows convenient adsorption/desorption experiments at cryogenic temperatures.
