Abstract

A modified version of the Sullivan-Walsh type of high-intensity hollow-cathode lamp has been developed as a source for flame atomic fluorescence. Measurements for several elements have shown that this type of lamp, in which the secondary discharge passes through the centre of the open-ended cylindrical hollow cathode, gives fluorescence signals which are several times greater than those obtained with a conventional high-intensity lamp.
