Abstract

In this paper, a high-efficiency solution to multi-phase stepup charge pump is proposed. Aiming at traditional multi-phase charge pump with full-coverage integer voltage conversion ratios (VCRs) for good efficiency, we further improve its efficiency at some particular VCRs. By automatically bypassing some unnecessary converter stages, dynamic power loss is reduced. Based on a 0.25 μm process, an example of three-stage charge pump with VCRs of 1∼8 is conducted. It shows that converter with proposed control strategy has improved perofrmance at VCR<5. Compared with traditional one, the efficiency is improved by 57% at most.
