Abstract
AbstractAn ultrathin‐layer polyacrylamide gel isoelectric focusing method is described for typing alpha 1‐antritrypsin. This method, which uses Pharmalyte pH 4.2–4.9 and a 9.5 cm or 7.0 cm inter‐electrode wick distance, clearly resolves the M1, M2, M3, S, Z and a number of rare variant allelic products. In addition, a rapid screening method for the detection of the Z, the most deficient variant, using a gel with an electrode wick distance of 5.0 cm, is also efficaceous in the detection of this and other rare allelic products.
