Abstract

The change in the fluorescence peak with pressure was measured for 4-(dimethylamino)benzonitrile (DMABN), N-ethyl-5-cyanoindoline (EIN), and N-ethylindoline-5-carboxylic acid, ethyl ester (EICEE), which have different well-defined fluorescent states. The values of the initial slope, - (d ν max/d p)0, for 1L b, 1L a, and TICT states in acetonitrile were determined as 48–55, 98, and 208 cm −1/kbar, respectively. From the fluorescence peak shifts it is possible to assign the nature of the first excited singlet states.
