Abstract

This paper concerns the power splitter for CATV transmission system including down-converted DBS signals. In this work, a novel transformer-type Wilkinson power splitter with a compensating circuit was developed for application in a CATV transmission system. In order to extract the best RF performance from the power splitter, it was optimally designed using a newly proposed design method that employs transformer-type lumped equivalent circuit. The power splitter showed highly improved RF characteristics in comparison with conventional ones. It exhibited a bandwidth that extended up to 1500 MHz, and return loss and isolation values lower than -15 dB from 5 MHz to 1500 MHz. The above results indicate that the transformer-type Wilkinson power splitter with a compensating circuit is a promising candidate for application in CATV.
