Abstract

This paper proposes a gain enhancement for a collinear antenna by using Electromagnetic Band Gap (EBG) reflector. The EBG was designed using Interdigital Capacitive Coplanar waveguide (IDC-CPW) structure at the fundamental frequency of 1.8 GHz. By using this technique, the second resonance frequency could be shifted to 2.45 GHz caused by the capacitive load at the end of IDC-CPW. Moreover, it can reduce the length of EBG unit cell form λ/2 to λ/4 caused by the slow wave effect. From the measurement, the collinear antenna with EBG reflector has directional radiation pattern, bandwidth of 250 MHz (2.32–2.55 GHz) and gain of 13.2 dB. This proposed antenna can be employed for WLAN applications.
