Abstract

A new type of hydrogen dissociator for polarized atomic beams, based on a surface-wave discharge at 2.45 GHz, is described. We report dissociation-degree measurements as function of gas throughput, microwave power and oxygen fraction. A dissociation degree of more than 80% has been achieved for a gas input up to about 6 mbarl/s.
