Abstract

• Preparation of FeCrCoAl x HEA coatings with BCC structure by laser remelting technique. • The FeCrCoAl 1 HEA coatings have high corrosion resistance. • Al played a critical role to improve the stability of the HEAs coatings. A high-corrosion-resistance high-entropy alloys (HEAs) coatings with single BCC solid solution structure was successfully prepared on Cr13 steel by laser remelting technology. The composition, microstructure, and corrosion properties of HEAs coatings with different Al contents were studied in detail. FeCrCoAl x HEAs coatings significantly improve the corrosion resistance of Cr13 steel, and the FeCrCoAl 1 HEAs coatings exhibits the best corrosion resistance, which were attributed to the uniform distribution of various elements in the coatings due to the higher △ S mix of HEAs and the preferentially formed uniform oxide films (mainly AlO x and CrO x ) on the coatings due to the lower △ G .
