Abstract

Nano VC reinforced submicron Fe-based composite cladding layers were successfully obtained under water-cooled substrate conditions, showing an absence of noticeable defects. The matrix of the layer mainly consisted of equiaxed grains, with the average grain size refined to 0.78 μm. The VC with an average particle size of 72 nm distributed along the grain boundaries. As a result, the hardness of the layer increased from 225 HV0.2 to 930 HV0.2. Additionally, the cladding layer exhibited prominent passivation characteristics, its corrosion resistance was comparable to that of the 2Cr13 stainless steel.
