Abstract

An ester–imine cage was synthesized from hexapyrrolic tripodal precursor and characterized with NMR spectroscopy and X–ray crystallography. This novel molecular cage displays good stability in wet organic solvents and exhibits moderate to strong affinity (103–106 M–6) for anions in chloroform. Theoretical calculations support the relative strong binding between the cage and SO42−.
