Abstract

While using the cooperative vehicle safety systems based on Vehicle Ad-hoc Network more frequently, the performance of the Vehicle Ad-hoc Network in high vehicle density could not meet the requirements of the increasing road safety due to the channel congestion condition. Though there is a lot of research about the congestion control in Vehicle Ad-hoc Network, the feedbacks of the Vehicle Ad-hoc Network limit the Quality of Service in vehicle connectivity. In this paper, we proposed a heterogeneous architecture to achieve superior performance in congestion condition, interworking the Vehicle Ad-hoc Network with the cellular network 3GPP LTE. The congestion state was determined in LTE cellular network and the control algorithm of adjusting the transmitting power was implemented in Vehicle Ad-hoc Network. Furthermore, if the network congestion reached a critical value, partial data would be transmitted through LTE cellular network. Finally, we proved that the network performance in terms of packet reception probability and channel busy ratio was optimized as illustrated by our simulation results.
