Abstract

A hermeneutical approach to the issues of aging can be constructed beginning with Jesus as a key to the meaning of Scripture. His condensing of biblical intent to two commandments of love becomes the basis for an approach to ministering with the elderly. Prevailing theories of age-segregated education and evangelistic marketing approaches targeting “people groups” have served to validate the segregation and isolation of older adults in church life. Rather than the usual neglect and isolation, full integration in relationships of love promises great benefits to the church willing to follow Christ's teaching and to the elderly themselves.
