Abstract

In 1951 an examination of dead embryos from a strain of Barnevelder fowl disclosed an abnormality of the beak, a description of which had not yet appeared in literature. The typical malformation of the beak—upper beak curling upwards, lower beak downwards—suggested the name “Donald Duck” for these embryos. Analysis of material in hand resulted in the abnormality being simple autosomal recessive.
