Abstract
In what has been billed as the world's biggest IT project, Germany is embarking on a new telematics infrastructure for the introduction of electronic health cards (eGK) and medical profession ID cards (HBA) for doctors, pharmacists, hospital staff, therapists and other medical professionals. Silvio Stockmann, vice president and head of the Health/ID/Banking business units at Sagem Orga, tells CTT why smart card technology could mean the difference between life and death in Germany.
