Abstract

Over the last 2 years in their role as a director of diversity, the author had a sense of fulfillment from hosting small group discussions with medical students on implicit bias. Many of these discussions are centered around cases they developed to mirror their own experiences. As an educator having small group discussions was important for the author. Their goal was to train well-rounded health care professionals with diverse thoughts and skills to serve everyone regardless of how they speak or where they are from. The author wanted to engage in conversations with their students and have a chance to truly observe if they understood the issue of microaggressions.
