Abstract

The delivery of health care does not happen in a vacuum. What health care professionals demonstrate daily is that treating illness is not as simple as making a diagnosis and prescribing a cure. Health is very much part of a person′s life, involving upbringing, culture and faith. One of today′s challenges is to bring to a multi−ethnic society a high quality of care that meets the appropriate needs of the patient (Hancock, 2003). In a multicultural, multi−faith society, it is essential that care is offered in way that respects and accommodates everyone′s cultural and religious needs (Greengross, 2003).
